How do I receive incoming calls with translation enabled?

Create an Incoming number in My Translators, choose how to identify the caller’s language, and set where calls ring. Once the number is active, customers call it and TalkTool translates their conversation with your team.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Create an incoming translation agent

Open My Translators → Set Up Agent and choose Incoming number. Auto Connect lines are for staff to call; an incoming number is for customers to reach you.

  2. Choose how to identify the caller’s language

Choose Auto-detect, Callers choose a language for a keypad menu, or One language for every caller. For Auto-detect, choose the opening announcement language shown in the wizard; this does not set the caller’s translation language.

  3. Choose where the call rings

Under Where should calls ring?, choose Answer in the dashboard or Forward to my phone. For forwarding, enter and validate the destination phone number.

  4. Review and activate your number

Select Connect a phone number, search available inventory and select a result. Review routing, number requirements and displayed charges before confirming activation. Selecting a search result alone does not activate it.

  5. Prepare to answer and test

For dashboard calls, allow microphone access and mark yourself available for the number. Have a colleague call your active TalkTool number and check translation in both directions before sharing it with customers.

A practical example

A customer calls your TalkTool number and speaks French. With Auto-detect configured, TalkTool identifies their supported language and connects them to your chosen destination. Your team answers in its configured listening language.

Common questions

Should customers call my Auto Connect line?

Use an Incoming number for customer calls. An Auto Connect line is a staff access line for adding an interpreter or dialing out.

Can customers choose a language instead of using detection?

Yes. Choose Callers choose a language and configure the supported language menu during incoming-number setup.

Why is the dashboard not ringing?

Check that the incoming number is active, its destination is the dashboard, and an eligible teammate is available for that number. For phone forwarding, check the configured destination instead.
