How do Auto Connect and Auto-detect work together?

In My Translators → Set Up Agent, choose Auto Connect line and Auto-detect. Add optional language hints, choose merge-only or dial-out access, then search for a number and review the setup. Auto-detect identifies the customer’s language while your team keeps its listening language.

Follow the video, step by step

The demo configures an Auto Connect line and stops at the number review. It does not purchase or activate a number.

  1. Open the setup wizard

From the TalkTool dashboard, open My Translators and select Set Up Agent.

  2. Choose Auto Connect line

This is the dedicated number your team calls when they need an interpreter. Choose Incoming number instead if customers will call your business through TalkTool.

  3. Choose Auto-detect

TalkTool identifies the customer’s language as they speak. Your team keeps hearing its own language. The internal line’s prompts follow your team’s language.

  4. Choose optional language hints

Open Language hints and search or browse the supported languages. Select several, such as Spanish and French, or remove all hints to detect any supported language. Hints help detection; they do not restrict the conversation to those languages.

  5. Name the line and choose how it connects

Choose Just connect an interpreter for merging into an existing call. Choose Include dial-out to offer press 1 for a new outgoing call and press 2 for connecting an interpreter to merge.

  6. Search for a phone number

Select Connect a phone number. Choose a country and number type, enter a city or ZIP code, and select Search. The video searches near Austin.

  7. Select a number and review the configuration

Selecting a search result opens the review. Check the number, Auto Connect setup, language hints and dial-out choice. Selection alone does not purchase or activate the number.

  8. Review activation separately

The video stops before Get this number. When setting up your own line, review the displayed price, any required documents and activation details before confirming. Use the line only after it is active.

A practical example

Your team speaks English and often receives Spanish and French conversations. Add Spanish and French as hints, or leave hints empty to detect any supported language. Enable Include dial-out if staff also need to start calls.

Common questions

Do language hints limit the languages that can be detected?

No. Hints help detection settle faster but do not restrict the conversation to only those languages.

What happens if I leave language hints empty?

TalkTool can detect any supported language. An empty field does not turn detection off.

Is Auto Connect the same as Auto-detect?

No. Auto Connect describes the staff line used to reach translation. Auto-detect describes how TalkTool identifies the customer’s language. You can use both on the same line.

Does choosing a number in search buy it?

No. Selecting an available number opens a review. Activation requires the separate confirmation step and any requirements displayed for that number.
