talktool

For medical offices & LEP language access

Language access for every patient call. Without per-minute interpreter bills.

Section 1557 expects free, accurate, and timely language assistance for LEP patients. TalkTool puts live AI interpretation on your existing office phones — 60+ languages, $0.30/min instead of $2+/min — so routine patient calls never wait on an interpreter.

  • Live two-way interpretation on the phones you already use
  • Patients just answer a normal call — no app
  • 60+ languages on every plan
  • Bilingual transcript of every patient call

Compliance without the meter running

Built for the calls that make up language access.

Most language-assistance minutes are not clinical consults — they are scheduling, reminders, refills, directions, insurance questions, and intake. At $2+/min those calls get rationed; at a flat monthly plan they just get answered. Keep your qualified human interpreter service for the encounters your policy requires one, and let TalkTool carry the routine volume.

BAA available on the Scale plan

Practices that handle PHI on translated calls can sign a Business Associate Agreement on the Scale plan, backed by our compliance documentation pack.

Zero-retention architecture

Recording and transcript retention are configurable down to zero — audio and text can be processed for live interpretation only and never stored.

60+ languages included

Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Arabic, Haitian Creole, and more — every language on every plan, with no per-language pricing.

Works with your existing office phones

Keep your practice number and your front-desk phones. Forward the line or conference TalkTool into a call — no new phone system, nothing for staff to install.

How it works

Nothing new for your patients. Very little for your staff.

01

A patient calls your office

Your existing number rings like it always has. Spanish-speaking patients can pick their language from a bilingual greeting.

02

Both sides hear their own language

Your front desk speaks English; the patient speaks their language. Each side hears the other translated live, in about two seconds.

03

The call is documented

Appointment details, refill requests, and follow-ups are captured in a bilingual transcript and AI summary — with retention controls your compliance policy sets.

Predictable pricing

A flat monthly line instead of a running meter.

The Starter plan gives your practice a dedicated translated phone line with all 60+ languages included. Interpretation minutes are $0.30 each — roughly a seventh of what per-minute human interpretation typically costs — so the front desk never has to ration language assistance.

Questions, answered

The questions compliance officers ask.

Straight answers on Section 1557, BAAs, retention, and cost.

Does this help with Section 1557 language-access requirements?

Section 1557 requires covered entities to give limited-English-proficient (LEP) patients meaningful access through free, accurate, and timely language assistance. TalkTool gives your office an always-available translated phone line for routine, high-volume patient calls — scheduling, reminders, refills, intake — so language assistance is never skipped because an interpreter was unavailable or too expensive. For encounters your policy classifies as requiring a qualified human interpreter (such as complex clinical discussions or consent), keep your interpreter service in the loop; TalkTool complements it rather than replacing it. TalkTool is not legal advice and does not by itself make a practice compliant.

Is TalkTool HIPAA-ready? Do you sign a BAA?

A Business Associate Agreement is available on the Scale plan. TalkTool also supports a zero-retention configuration in which call audio and transcripts are processed only for live interpretation and are not stored, and recording and transcript retention are configurable to match your compliance policy.

How much does it cost compared to interpreter services?

Live AI interpretation is $0.30 per minute, compared to $2 or more per minute for typical over-the-phone human interpretation. Plans start at $149/mo (Starter), which includes a dedicated translated phone line for your practice.

Do patients need to download anything?

No. Patients call your office number from any phone — mobile or landline — and speak their language. The interpretation happens inside the call itself; there is nothing for the patient to install or set up.

Which languages are supported?

More than 60 languages, including the top LEP languages in the U.S.: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Arabic, Korean, Russian, and Haitian Creole. Every language is included on every plan.

Does it work with our existing phone system?

Yes. You keep your practice number and phones. You can forward your line to a TalkTool number, give patients a dedicated translated line, or conference TalkTool into a call that is already in progress — no new hardware or phone system required.

Can we keep records of translated patient calls?

That is up to your policy. By default calls produce a bilingual transcript and AI summary for your records; practices with stricter requirements can reduce retention — down to zero, where nothing is stored after the call ends.

Give every patient a phone line they can understand.
