How-To Guide

Add a Live AI Interpreter to Any Mitel Call

TalkTool joins your Mitel calls as a real-time AI interpreter that translates both sides in about a second. Use Mitel's own conference or transfer control to dial it in — no marketplace app, no API, no app for your customer.

Quick Answer

How do I add an interpreter to a Mitel call?

On a live Mitel call, use the conference or add-call control in your MiCollab desktop app, MiVoice deskphone, or mobile client to dial your TalkTool conference number — the same way you would add any third person to the call. Once TalkTool answers, enter your organization code followed by #, then the two-digit code for the other person's language (for example, 01 for Spanish). Press 1 to have TalkTool dial your customer, or press 2 if they are already on the line with you. From that point the AI interpreter listens to both sides and speaks each person's words in the other language in roughly one to two seconds, for a flat $0.25 per minute. TalkTool supports 60+ languages and works with any Mitel plan because it joins over the regular phone network — there is no native Mitel integration, marketplace app, or API connector to install. Your customer needs no app and no download; they stay on the same call and simply hear a natural voice in their language. After you hang up, a two-language transcript and an AI summary of the conversation are saved in your TalkTool dashboard.

Add a live interpreter to a Mitel call

  1. 1

Get your TalkTool number and org code

Sign up for TalkTool and you'll receive a conference-in phone number plus a short organization code. Keep both handy — the number is what you dial from Mitel, and the org code identifies your account when TalkTool answers.

    • Save the TalkTool number as a contact in MiCollab so it's one tap to add
    • Your org code is the same for every call and every agent
    • No phone-system admin changes are needed to get started
  2. 2

Start or take the call in Mitel as usual

Place an outbound call or answer an incoming one on your MiCollab app, MiVoice deskphone, or the Mitel mobile client. You don't need to do anything special up front — TalkTool is added during the live call.

    • Works the same whether you called the customer or they called you
    • If the customer isn't on yet, you can have TalkTool dial them in step 4
    • Tell the customer briefly that an interpreter will join — it sets expectations
  3. 3

    Conference in your TalkTool number

Use Mitel's conference or add-call control to dial TalkTool's number as an additional party on the call. In MiCollab, open the Conference option, dial TalkTool, and use the consult/add control to merge it in; on a MiVoice deskphone use the Conf (Conference) soft key. This puts TalkTool on the line alongside you.

    • If you started with no customer yet, just dial TalkTool first and add them later
    • On a deskphone, press the Conf soft key, dial TalkTool, then press Conf again to merge
    • Use Mitel's consult/warm transfer if you prefer to hear TalkTool answer first
  4. 4

Enter your org code and the language code

When TalkTool's voice prompt answers, key in your organization code followed by #. Then enter the two-digit code for the language the other person speaks — for example, 01 for Spanish. TalkTool confirms the language out loud.

    • Dial the digits using Mitel's keypad / DTMF dialpad on the call screen
    • The full list of two-digit language codes is in your TalkTool dashboard
    • You only set the other party's language — your side is detected automatically
  5. 5

Press 1 to dial out, or 2 if they're already on

Press 1 and TalkTool will dial your customer and connect them; press 2 if the customer is already merged into the call with you. The AI interpreter then translates both directions live for a flat $0.25/min, and saves a transcript and summary afterward.

    • Use press-2 when you already conferenced the customer in via Mitel
    • Use press-1 to let TalkTool place the outbound leg for you
    • Speak in normal sentences and pause briefly so the interpreter can render each turn

Why add TalkTool to Mitel calls

Live AI translation on the calls you already make — nothing to install.

Works with your existing Mitel setup

Nothing to install on MiVoice, MiCollab, or MiCloud. TalkTool joins over the phone network using the conference control you already use, so there's no marketplace app, admin config, or API project.

60+ languages, both directions

From Spanish and Mandarin to Haitian Creole and Vietnamese, the AI interprets each side into the other person's language live, so a single Mitel call can serve any customer.

Live in about a second

Interpretation lands in roughly one to two seconds per turn — fast enough for a natural back-and-forth, with no hold queue and no waiting for a human interpreter to pick up.

Flat $0.25 per minute

One simple rate with no contracts, minimums, or per-language surcharges — typically 6 to 14 times cheaper than phone interpreter services that bill $1.50 to $3.50 a minute.

No app for your customer

The person on the other end stays on the same Mitel call and just hears a natural-sounding voice in their language. There's nothing for them to download, install, or sign into.

Transcript and summary after every call

Each call produces a two-language transcript and an AI summary saved in your TalkTool dashboard — handy for follow-ups, QA, and record-keeping alongside your Mitel call logs.

Full guide

Mitel powers phone systems for thousands of businesses, hospitals, municipalities, and contact centers — and many of them field calls in languages their staff don't speak. TalkTool adds a live AI interpreter to any Mitel call without changing a thing about your phone system. You conference it in like any third party, and it translates both sides in real time.

How it works with Mitel

TalkTool is not a Mitel app or API integration — and that's the point. It rides on the one capability every Mitel deployment already has: the ability to add a third party to a live call. Whether your team uses MiVoice deskphones, the MiCollab desktop and mobile apps, or MiCloud Connect, the move is the same. Mid-call, you use Mitel's conference or add-call control to dial your TalkTool number, just as you'd loop in a colleague.

Once TalkTool answers, you key in your organization code and #, then the two-digit code for the other person's language (01 for Spanish, for instance). Press 1 to have TalkTool dial your customer, or press 2 if they're already merged into the call. From there the AI listens to each speaker and renders their words in the other language in about a second. Because everything happens over the phone network, it works identically on a deskphone, a softphone, or a mobile handset — see the full walkthrough at how to conference in an AI interpreter.

AI interpreter vs. a human phone interpreter

Traditional interpreter lines like LanguageLine put a third human on the call — after you wait in a hold queue, and at $1.50 to $3.50 a minute. TalkTool answers instantly, runs 24/7, keeps the conversation to just the two people who need to talk, and costs a flat $0.25 per minute. For the routine calls that make up most of a Mitel shop's volume, that's a dramatic difference in both speed and cost.

The honest trade-off: for highly sensitive legal proceedings or medical-consent conversations, a certified human interpreter may still be the right call. Many teams split the difference — TalkTool for the everyday majority, humans for the rare high-stakes exception. See how the math compares on the LanguageLine alternatives page.

Who at a Mitel shop benefits

Any team that takes calls from people who speak another language. Healthcare front desks and clinics handling Spanish- or Vietnamese-speaking patients, city and county offices serving multilingual residents, property managers and dispatchers, retail and field-service support lines, and contact-center agents who'd otherwise scramble for an interpreter — all add TalkTool to a Mitel call in seconds.

Because there's nothing to install and no per-seat license, you can roll it out to one agent or an entire MiCollab team the same day. Learn more about the underlying service on the AI phone interpreter page.

What it costs and what you get

You pay one flat rate — $0.25 per minute of interpreted time — with no contracts, no minimums, and no language surcharges. After every call, TalkTool saves a two-language transcript and an AI summary to your dashboard, giving you a record alongside your Mitel call logs. Full pricing details are on the pricing page, and you can cut existing interpreter spend with the steps in reduce interpreter costs.

At $0.25/min, TalkTool runs roughly 6-14x cheaper than the $1.50-$3.50/min that human phone interpreter lines typically charge — with no hold queue and no third human on the call.
An interpreter on every Mitel call, with nothing to install
Because TalkTool conferences in over the phone network, any Mitel user — on a MiVoice deskphone, MiCollab app, or mobile — can add a 60+ language AI interpreter to a live call in seconds for a flat $0.25/min, no integration or customer app required.
