How-To Guide

Add a Live AI Interpreter to Any Talkdesk Call

When a caller reaches your Talkdesk queue in a language your agent doesn't speak, add TalkTool to the call from the agent workspace. The AI interprets both sides in about a second, in 60+ languages, for a flat $0.25 a minute.

Quick Answer

How do I add an interpreter to a Talkdesk call?

In the Talkdesk Agent Workspace, use the active-call controls to add a third party — the Add Call, Conference, or warm (consult) Transfer control — and dial your TalkTool conference number instead of another agent. Once TalkTool answers, enter your organization code followed by #, then the two-digit code for the caller's language (for example, 01 for Spanish). Press 1 if you want TalkTool to dial the customer for you, or press 2 if the caller is already on the line in your Talkdesk session. From that point the AI interpreter listens to both sides and speaks each person's words in the other language in roughly one to two seconds. TalkTool supports 60+ languages and bills a flat $0.25 per minute — no contracts, minimums, or per-seat fees. There is no Talkdesk AppConnect app, API, or native integration to install: TalkTool joins over the regular phone network, so it works with your existing Talkdesk numbers, routing, and softphone exactly as they are. The caller needs no app and no download — they stay on the same call and simply hear a natural voice in their language. After you hang up, a two-language transcript and an AI summary are saved to your TalkTool dashboard so you have a record of what was said.

Add a live interpreter to a Talkdesk call

  1. 1

Get your TalkTool number and org code

Create a TalkTool account to receive your dedicated conference number and your organization code. Keep both within reach of your Talkdesk agents — pinning them in a Talkdesk knowledge base card or the agent's notes panel makes them one glance away mid-call.

    • Sign up at usetalktool.com to get your conference number and org code
    • Save the number where agents can see it inside the Talkdesk workspace
    • Keep the two-digit language code list handy for your most common languages
  2. 2

On a live Talkdesk call, add a line to TalkTool

When you reach a caller you can't understand, open the call controls in the Talkdesk Agent Workspace and choose Add Call (or start a warm/consult Transfer). Dial your TalkTool conference number as if it were another agent. Talkdesk places the caller briefly while it connects TalkTool.

    • Use Add Call or a warm (consult) Transfer rather than a blind transfer
    • The caller is held on Talkdesk's side while TalkTool answers
    • Works the same whether you're on the Talkdesk web app, desktop app, or softphone
  3. 3

Enter your org code, then #

When TalkTool answers, key in your organization code followed by the # key using the Talkdesk dialpad. This authenticates the call to your account so usage and transcripts land in the right dashboard.

    • Use the on-screen Talkdesk keypad to send the digits
    • Press # right after the org code to submit it
    • If you mis-key, TalkTool will re-prompt — just enter it again
  4. 4

    Choose the caller's language

Enter the two-digit code for the language the caller speaks — for example, 01 for Spanish. TalkTool loads that language pair so it can interpret between English and the caller's language.

    • 01 is Spanish; keep your team's top codes posted in Talkdesk
    • Pick the language the customer speaks, not English
    • Unsure of the language? Ask the caller a short prompt before selecting
  5. 5

Press 1 to dial out, or 2 if already connected

Press 2 because the caller is already in your Talkdesk session — TalkTool joins the existing conference and starts interpreting both sides immediately. (Press 1 only if you're starting a fresh outbound call and want TalkTool to dial the customer for you.) Merge the lines in Talkdesk so all three parties are connected, and talk normally.

    • Press 2 for an inbound caller already on your Talkdesk call
    • Press 1 to have TalkTool place an outbound call to the customer
    • Speak in short, complete sentences and pause to let the AI interpret

Why add TalkTool to Talkdesk calls

Live AI translation on the calls you already make — nothing to install.

Works with your existing Talkdesk setup

Nothing to install in Talkdesk — no AppConnect app, no API. TalkTool joins over the phone, so your numbers, routing, and agent workspace stay exactly as they are.

60+ languages on demand

Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, Arabic and more — each picked with a two-digit code right from the Talkdesk dialpad.

Interprets in about a second

The AI speaks each side's words in the other language in roughly one to two seconds, so conversations stay natural instead of stop-and-go.

Flat $0.25 per minute

One predictable rate with no contracts, seat fees, or minimums — typically 6 to 14 times cheaper than a human phone interpreter.

No third human on the line

Your agent keeps direct rapport with the customer. The AI interpreter is just a voice, not a stranger sitting in on every call.

Transcript and summary saved

After each call, a two-language transcript and an AI summary land in your TalkTool dashboard for QA, follow-up, and compliance records.

Talkdesk gives your contact center polished routing, queues, and an agent workspace — but it doesn't make an English-only agent suddenly fluent in Spanish or Vietnamese. TalkTool fills that gap by letting any agent conference a live AI interpreter onto a Talkdesk call, with no integration to build and a flat $0.25-per-minute rate.

How it works alongside Talkdesk

When a caller lands in your queue speaking a language your agent doesn't, the agent opens the Talkdesk call controls and uses Add Call, Conference, or a warm (consult) Transfer to dial your TalkTool conference number — exactly the same motion as looping in a supervisor or second agent. TalkTool answers, the agent enters the org code and #, picks the caller's language with a two-digit code, and presses 2 because the caller is already on the line. Merge the parties and the AI starts interpreting both sides.

The important part: this is not a Talkdesk marketplace app or API connector. TalkTool joins over the telephone network, so there is nothing to provision in Talkdesk and nothing for IT to maintain. It works with your existing Talkdesk numbers, routing rules, and the web, desktop, or softphone agent workspace as-is. See the full walkthrough on how to conference in an AI interpreter.

AI interpreter vs. a human interpreter line

Traditional over-the-phone interpretation means putting the caller on hold, dialing a vendor, waiting in a routing queue, briefing a human, and then resuming — often 30 to 60 seconds of dead air before anyone speaks. TalkTool connects in seconds, is available 24/7, and keeps the conversation between your agent and the customer with the interpreter as just a voice rather than a third person on the line.

For the routine bulk of support, billing, scheduling, and service calls, that speed and privacy are a real upgrade. For situations that legally require a certified human interpreter, keep using one — TalkTool is built to cover the everyday volume, not to replace credentialed interpreters where the law mandates them. Who at a Talkdesk shop benefits

Talkdesk tends to sit in mid-market and enterprise contact centers — customer support, healthcare front offices, financial services, retail, logistics, and government-adjacent help desks. Any of those teams that field calls from limited-English-proficient customers can hand frontline agents a fast way to communicate without staffing bilingual agents for every shift and every language.

Because each agent just dials a number, there's no per-seat rollout or training project. A supervisor can pilot it on a single queue, prove it out, and expand — without touching the Talkdesk admin configuration at all.

What it costs

TalkTool is a flat $0.25 per minute of interpreted talk time, with no contracts, minimums, or per-seat fees. A 20-minute multilingual call is about $5. Human phone interpreters typically bill $1.50 to $3.50 a minute, so the same call can run $30 to $70 — roughly 6 to 14 times more.

For a contact center handling steady multilingual volume, that difference compounds quickly. See full pricing on the pricing page or read how to reduce interpreter costs.

A 20-minute call: about $5 with TalkTool vs. $30–$70 with a human phone interpreter.
